Jesus Joins the Blogosphere

So apparently Jesus Christ himself now has his own blog.  It consists of pretty much nothing but the sayings of Jesus on various social issues like wealth, violence, love of enemies, etc.  The funny thing about the blog is the litany of conservative evangelical commentators on the blog that decry what’s being said as “hippie” and “peanic” forms of “works-righteousness”.  Maybe the whole thing, comments and all is just a satire, but if so, it’s hard to tell.  Either way, It’s fairly entertaining to read the inane comments.

Also, you should definitely read about the “first” Emerging Amish Church.  Generous orthodoxies everywhere just got more beardy.

Oh, that’s funny. I think this was my favorite comment:
“This young man obviously had some serious issues with money. We’ve talked about this before in our church and even Sunday School. What this man was dealing with was that he loved his money more then he loved God. If he had been willing to give up his money, Jesus never would have had to ask him to do it!
That’s what we teach people, it’s not like Jesus is commanding everyone to give up their money, he’s just making the point that you have to be ‘willing’ to give it up.”

man, some of the comments on there blew me away. I really hope that some of those comments were part of the act and not real comments from people who have no clue about scripture.

That’s awesome! I have no idea what that means, but its still awesome. Also, “post – Amish.”

Seriously, though, I have been doing some reading about Amish communities, and it seems that we might learn a thing or two from them about maintaining community identity. I hope that “emerging from Amish-ness” doesn’t mean for them embracing individualism.

    Hi all,

These “new stories” are satirical. You can read them in their entirety at Jesus Manifesto.com (http://www.jesusmanifesto.com/category/satire/)

So rest easy, although a “post-Amish” emergent community would be a site to see, we won’t have to worry about the Amish losing their identity… at least not quite yet.
