I just discovered, thanks to Phil, Maria Lectrix, a blog dedicated to providing audio recordings of books for readers with “Catholic tastes.” Well, sign me up! Included among the free audiobooks are Irenaeus’ Against Heresies, Cyril of Jerusalem’s Catechetical Lectures, Hilaire Belloc’s Europe and the Faith, and John Henry Newman’s Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine, just to name a few. This is truly a treasure of Christian literature being made available in audio form. From what I’ve listened to so far, the quality is quite serviceable.
I actually was just thinking of mentioning this to you this morning when I saw the response to your post on Irenaeus. I don’t leave home without Against Heresies and The Catechetical Lectures on my iPod.
I’ve listened to a good bit of Newman’s Essay on Development, and it’s very well done. The lady’s voice is clear and punctuated, with enough variation to keep the listener interested. So, there’s my little promo. And, of course, the content (Newman) is fantastic.
