Completely brilliant Halden, I wish more preachers had this type of theological acumen in their sermons. Keep up the good work!

PS Thanks for the shout-out about my humble return to the blogosphere!

Great sermon Halden. In terms of hopes that Jesus may have been engaging with in order to subvert, what do you think of the priestly one captured in the psalm for the Priest emerging from the Holy of Holies on Atonement day with YHWH on his forehead, 'blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord'. Do you think Jesus was deliberately engaging their hopes for a true priest when he put his own body on the line in place of the 'bread' and 'wine'?

Excellent sermon. I would gladly preach that in my home congregation. Interesting tid-bit: Hosanna, or the Hebrew word "Hoshanna" means "please save" or "save now".

http://levellers.wordpress.com/2009/04/05/palm-sunday-anti-imperial-street-theatre/

I think it also challenges the kinds of hopes we are to have. This parade is in stark contrast to the imperial/military parade at the other (Western) gate.
