Let&#039;s also remember that the marginal income tax (during peace) was 2% on those making over $4000. That is, less than 10% of American families paid income tax (thanks wiki). Currently, 10% is the lowest and 35% is the highest tax bracket. That is a fairly serious hike.

While you are certainly right to point to production in order to determine the nature of the economic regime, income tax is still important. China, a pseudo-communist country, has an income tax from 5%-45%. It is a fundamentally different country that goes from 0% income tax to 15% to 35%.</description>

		<description>I remember in my naiveté as a High Schooler thinking that there was this enormous difference in the Republican and Democratic parties. Now I&#039;m inclined I am to believe that it&#039;s merely a ruse created by the ruling oligarchy to perpetuate their hegemony. The difference (on economic issues at least) is mere percentage points. 

I sure hope my staunch Republican parents don&#039;t read this...</description>
